Cost of goods
Shopify COGS tracking that matches how your supplier actually charges
Juicy puts the right product cost on every order, then shows it in profit per order and per product. Enter the quote as it is written: per variant, per quantity, per country, in the supplier's currency, from the day it starts.
Why Shopify's cost field is not enough
Shopify keeps one cost per variant, and that field has no start date. Type a new number and it replaces the old one. Juicy uses that Shopify cost when you have not set your own, then lets you go further: a quantity quote, a country, the supplier's currency, and the day a new price starts.
Those costs feed Juicy Profit Analytics, so profit on the order is after the product cost, not just revenue.
A cost for the product, or for one variant
Set one cost for the whole product, or a different cost for each variant. A size or a color often has its own supplier price. Product Performance then shows units sold, cost, and profit for each variant.
Quantity prices from the supplier quote
Enter the total cost for a quantity, the way the quote is written. One unit, two units, four units: each row is the cost for that many units. You do not have to turn the quote into a single per-unit price.
If an order falls between the rows you entered, Juicy fills the quantity from those rows. The largest row is used as many times as it fits, then a smaller row covers what is left. If 1 unit costs $5 and 2 units cost $8, a 3-unit order is $13 (the 2-unit row plus the 1-unit row). A 4-unit order is $16 (two 2-unit rows).
The steps for typing this in are in the COGS setup guide.
Enter the cost in your supplier's currency
Choose the currency on the cost entry. If the supplier invoices in euros, leave the quote in euros, even when the store's profit is shown in US dollars. You do not convert it in a spreadsheet first.
Juicy converts each order with the exchange rate from that order's own date. An order on 1 October uses 1 October's rate. An order today uses today's rate. The currency you view profit in uses the same rates, so the cost and the sale are converted the same way. A past order keeps its own rate, so that profit stays as it was.
A new supplier price does not rewrite past profit
When the price changes, enter the new cost and the date it starts. Orders before that date keep the old cost.
An order on 20 February keeps $8.00. An order on 4 March uses $9.50. Country, currency, and quantity tiers sit on the same cost entry, so a new price for one country can start on the day you choose.
A different cost per country
Set a cost for one country when the goods are stored or landed differently there. The same product can cost more to get into one market than another. Profit by country uses that cost in the country's gross profit.
A worked example
Example values
- The store shows US dollars. The supplier invoices in euros.
- Through 28 February: 1 unit is €7.40, and 2 units are €13.00.
- From 1 March: 1 unit is €8.80, and 2 units are €15.40.
- An order on 12 February for 3 units is the 2-unit row plus the 1-unit row: €20.40. At an example rate of 1 euro = 1.08 US dollars, that is $22.03.
- An order on 5 March for 3 units is €24.20, which is $26.14 at that same example rate.
- The February order stays at $22.03 after the March price is saved. It keeps the cost and the rate from its own date.
The 1.08 rate is only an example. Juicy uses the rate from each order's date, and the same rates for the currency you view profit in. Now check your break-even ROAS.
Where the cost shows up
On the order
Each order uses the cost that matches its date, country, and quantity. That cost is part of profit on the order in Juicy Profit Analytics.
Per product and variant
Product Performance subtracts cost of goods only. Shipping, fees, and ad spend are not split onto a single product.
Per country
Profit by country uses the country cost inside gross profit, then shows ad spend for that country.
In Profit & Loss
Store-wide profit includes product cost together with shipping, fees, and ad spend. Shipping you pay on its own is a shipping rule.
Update costs from the chat
Connect ChatGPT, Claude, or Grok with the Juicy MCP connector and ask it to add or update product costs, including a list of products, and other settings you keep in Juicy. You can also ask Shopify Sidekick about profit and ad spend.
If the costs are already in a CSV file, email [email protected] and the Juicy team can upload the list for you. The app does not have a CSV upload button.
FAQ
Does Juicy use the product cost I already set in Shopify?
Yes. When you have not entered your own cost, Juicy uses the cost of goods already set on the product in Shopify.
Can I set a different cost for each variant?
Yes. You can set one cost for the product, or a different cost for each variant, such as a size or a color. Product Performance shows units sold, cost, and profit for each variant.
My supplier invoices in another currency. Can I enter the cost in that currency?
Yes. Choose the currency on the cost entry. Juicy converts it into the currency you use to view profit. You do not convert the quote yourself.
Which exchange rate is used to convert supplier costs?
Juicy uses the exchange rate from the date of the order. An order on 1 October uses the rate from 1 October. An order today uses today's rate. The currency you view profit in uses the same rates, so the cost and the sale are converted the same way. A past order keeps the rate from its own date, so that profit does not change later.
My supplier raised the price. Will that change profit on past orders?
No, if you set a start date on the new cost. Orders before that date keep the old cost. For example, $8.00 until 1 March and $9.50 from 1 March: an order on 20 February keeps $8.00, and an order on 4 March uses $9.50.
What happens to orders placed before the first start date?
They keep the earlier cost. If you have not set your own cost, Juicy uses the product cost from Shopify.
How do quantity tiers work if I only enter 1 or 2 tiers?
For orders with 3 or more units, Juicy covers the total quantity using your entered brackets: the largest bracket as many times as it fits, then the remainder with smaller brackets. For example, if 1 unit costs $5 and 2 units cost $8, a 3-unit order is calculated as one 2-unit bracket ($8) plus one 1-unit bracket ($5), for $13 total. A 4-unit order is calculated as two 2-unit brackets (2 × $8), for $16 total.
Can I set a different product cost per country?
Yes. Limit a cost to one country when goods are stored or landed differently in that market. Profit by country uses that cost for the country's gross profit.
My supplier price includes shipping. What should I enter?
Enter the total on the quote, product and shipping together. That is the product cost Juicy should use. Shipping you pay separately is set as a shipping rule.
Where can I see profit per product after COGS?
In Product Performance. That report subtracts cost of goods only. It does not subtract shipping, transaction fees, or ad spend, because those are not tied to one product. Profit on the order, profit by country, and Profit & Loss include the wider costs.
Are COGS rules included on the Free plan?
Yes. The same COGS rules are included on every plan, including Free. Free covers up to 50 orders a month. Starter is $29 a month. Advanced is $49 a month. Prices are in US dollars.
